Are you a PhD student or recent PhD graduate from a lower-income country? Do you have a high-quality abstract for the upcoming Social Work, Education and Social Development (SWSD) conference?
The SWESD conference, co-organized by the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), the International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW), and the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from June 26 to 29, 2026.
The IASSW Research Committee is offering two awards to support early career researchers from lower-income countries (based on per capita GDP, aligning with IASSW membership and conference fee structures). These awards will cover the conference fees.
Eligibility & How to Apply:
- Your abstract must be based on ongoing PhD research or a recently completed PhD.
- Submit your abstract by November 30, 2025, as per the conference deadline at: SWESD2026
- Crucially, in the “keywords” field of your abstract submission, you must include the code: ‘PHDBASED‘. This indicates your eligibility for the award.
No additional tasks are required beyond submitting your abstract on time with the ‘PHDBASED‘ keyword. Your abstract will automatically be considered for the award.
Selection Process:
Eligible abstracts will undergo a peer-review process by impartial and experienced academics from the IASSW Research Committee and IASSW member schools of social work. Each abstract will be evaluated based on five key criteria:
- Clarity
- Theoretical foundation
- Methodology
- Significance
- Overall organization
Previous Awardee:
At the last conference in Panama (2024), Dr. Leila Marchezi Tavares Menandro from the Federal University of Espirito Santo (UFES) in Brazil received an award for her abstract, “Reproductive rights and female sterilization in Brazil.”
